lyrics

I sat down to write a poem
About the things I knew
About the things you like
And I was hoping that you'd like me to
But as the (I) ink-jaculated on the empty page
I realized my words were quite trite
Vapid and cliche

Now poetry's not quite my forte
Mezzo or pianissimo
But achieving goals was something
I'd decided to work harder on
So I picked up my pen and paper
Took a walk
And bought a donut
Sat in the park
And watched the sun go down

Now I was feeling quite discouraged
About my poetry
I ended up in a bar alone
Just staring at a TV screen
With half-full glasses all around me
And mine empty and cracked
I threw my pen at the bartender
And stamped the paper upon the floor

The patrons all just stared at me
And someone said "Get out of here!"
I grabbed my coat and headed for the door
On the way home I smashed a window
Burned a church down
And stole a car
Stopped at Vons
And picked you out a card
